Editing mind maps

Focus nodes

To edit a node you first have to select it, so that it's focused. You simply do this by clicking the node. Once it's focused it will have a blue border and some attached buttons. Now the node can be edited.

Editing nodes

To edit the text of a node, simply double click it. The text of the node will slightly change its appearance and be selected. When you start typing now you'll change the text of the node. To finish the edit, simply press Enter or click somewhere besides the node.

Other node actions are offered by the buttons shown below the node when focused. Depending on the node type different buttons are shown. Root nodes only show one button, a "+", to add a new child. All other nodes also show an X to remove the node. Nodes with images have one or two extra buttons. One to switch the way the image is displayed (within the map, or as a link), and if the image is displayed within the map, a button to resize the image.

Finally, as described in the editor user interface, the properties menu on the left is only active when a node is focused. Using this menu you can add notes, todos, links, icons and an image or change the node style.

Arranging nodes

As you've probably already noticed while playing around with the app, the nodes are layed out automatically in Mind42. We know that his is a major limitation for some kind of projects, but we decided to implement it like this to keep it simple for users. With our system users can simply continue adding node after node without ever having to worry that something overlaps. The mind map will always try to balance the number of nodes to the left and right, so it's not possible to have all nodes on one side.

It's however possible to rearrange the order of the nodes. To do that simply drag a node to the new desired position. A preview will show where the node would be inserted when releasing the mouse.
